Civil Engineering

The Department has been established in the year 2009 & offers B.Tech. programme in Civil Engineering. The department's strengths include highly skilled, energetic and dedicated faculty members, who are equipped with enterprising skills.

The Department hosts Expert Lectures, Students Seminars/Webinars, Field Visits, faculty development program, technical competitions are organized. A strong foundation is laid through courses on Water Resources Engineering, Structural Analysis, Concrete and Steel Structures, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Computer Application. Besides, students are offered a variety of electives like Traffic Engineering, Environmental Pollution Management, Construction Management, Repair and Rehabilitation of structures. The theoretical courses are supplemented by imparting practical experience through well-equipped laboratories.

TEACHING PEDAGOGY

Teaching pedagogy in civil engineering focuses on a blend of theoretical knowledge, practical applications, and experiential learning to equip students with the necessary skills for the field. Below are some key pedagogical approaches used in civil engineering education:

  1. Lecture-Based Learning
  2. Traditional lectures provide fundamental concepts in subjects like structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, fluid mechanics, and transportation engineering. These sessions often include multimedia tools, real-world case studies, and problem-solving exercises.

  3. Problem-Based Learning (PBL)
  4. Students are given real-life engineering problems to solve, encouraging critical thinking, teamwork, and analytical skills. PBL enhances problem-solving abilities and bridges the gap between theory and practice.

  5. Laboratory Experiments
  6. Hands-on laboratory sessions help students understand material properties, structural behavior, soil mechanics, and fluid dynamics. Labs are essential for reinforcing theoretical concepts through experimental validation.

  7. Field Visits and Case Studies
  8. Site visits to construction projects, bridges, highways, and geotechnical sites expose students to real-world challenges. Case studies on iconic structures help in understanding engineering principles in practice.

  9. Computer-Aided Learning
  10. Software tools such as AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, ETABS, and MATLAB are integrated into the curriculum to enhance computational skills, structural modeling, and design capabilities.
